Glasgow 2026: Abdul Wahid Omar exits boxing after unanimous defeat to England’s Patris Mughalzai

Ghana’s Abdul Wahid Omar has been eliminated from the men’s 65kg boxing competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after a 5-0 unanimous points defeat to England’s Patris Mughalzai in the round of 32 at the SEC Hall on Friday.

Omar, a bronze medalist at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, was outscored in all three rounds as Mughalzai earned the nod from all five judges.

The Ghanaian trailed after the opening round. Four judges scored Omar nine points and one awarded him 10, while four judges gave Mughalzai 10 points and one scored him nine.

Mughalzai extended his lead in the second round, with all five judges awarding him 10 points. Omar received nine points from each judge.

The third round sealed the result as Omar was knocked down twice. Two judges scored him nine points, while the other three awarded him eight. Mughalzai received 10 points from all five judges.

The unanimous defeat ends Omar’s Glasgow 2026 campaign at the first hurdle and hands Team Ghana an early setback in the boxing competition.
