By turning down the chance to sign a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets this offseason, three time NBA Most Valuable Player Award winner Nikola Jokic is in line to sign a bumper contract to stay with the Nuggets.
Jokic has two more seasons left on his contract that pays him an average salary of $55.2 million but the Serbian player can opt out after this upcoming season and become a free agent.
By turning down the chance to sign an extension, the multiple time NBA All Star Jokic is eligible to sign a five year deal worth $359 million next season with the Denver Nuggets.
That should increase his average salary from $55.2 million to $71.8 million while playing for the team he has been on since joining the NBA as the 41st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Speaking to journalist Marko Ljubomirovic after aiding Serbia beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 94-81 in a FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifier, Nikola Jokic said,

“My idea and my wish is to stay in Denver. I will most probably sign next summer. The decision is strictly business oriented. My wish is to stay and play for Denver the rest of my career. It’s on them if they want me.”

Jokic averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists last season.
