All three host nations have reached the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the United States beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in their Round of 32 clash, joining Canada and Mexico in the last 16.

Folarin Balogun gave the United States the lead just before half-time with his third goal of the tournament, before Malik Tillman sealed the win with an 82nd-minute free kick.
The hosts finished the match with 10 men after Balogun was sent off following a VAR review. Referee Raphael Claus upgraded the striker’s challenge on Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic from no foul to a straight red card after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor. Balogun will miss the United States’ Round of 16 match against Belgium through suspension.

Despite the dismissal, Mauricio Pochettino’s side held on for a clean sheet to become the third and final host nation to progress.
Canada were the first hosts to reach the Round of 16 with a 1-0 win over South Africa, while Mexico followed with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador. The United States completed a clean sweep for the tournament’s host nations.

The United States will face Belgium on July 6 after the Red Devils came from two goals down to beat Senegal 3-2 after extra time. Mexico take on England on July 5, while Canada face Morocco on July 4.
The United States have won three of their four matches, scoring eight goals and conceding five. Mexico have won all four of their games, scoring eight goals without conceding, while Canada have also reached the Round of 16 with three wins from four matches.
