CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe says he expects Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda to settle on a joint visa arrangement for fans travelling between the three countries during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the tournament’s first edition to be shared by East African hosts.
“I am confident that there will be a joint visa arrangement,” Motsepe said, revealing that talks between the relevant authorities are already underway.
A common visa framework would ease one of the trickiest parts of a three-nation tournament: getting supporters, teams and officials across borders between host cities without the usual red tape.
CAF expects AFCON 2027 to draw large crowds from across the continent and beyond, making cross-border movement a key planning issue.
Motsepe has repeatedly pushed the three governments, their football associations and local organising committees to work as one unit as preparations continue, with CAF officials currently assessing progress on stadiums, transport, accommodation and training facilities.
For East Africa, delivering a smooth, unified travel system alongside the infrastructure push is shaping up as a chance to prove the region can run a tournament of this scale and strengthen ties between the three nations in the process.
