Bundesliga round-up: Dortmund go top with comeback win over Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund went top of the Bundesliga after a superb second-half comeback to win 4-2 at Bayer Leverkusen.

It looked as if Dortmund would lose their unbeaten start to the season when Mitchell Weiser and Jonathan Tah scored to send the hosts into the break with a two-goal lead.

However, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Marco Reus scored in quick succession midway through the second half to level things up and Paco Alcacer put Dortmund in front with five minutes remaining.

Alcacer struck again deep into injury time to complete the turnaround and add a little gloss to the result, which sees Dortmund lead the Bundesliga by a point after Bayern Munich’s defeat to Hertha Berlin on Friday.

Earlier on Saturday, Werder Bremen had missed the chance to go top of the table after they lost 2-1 at Stuttgart. Goals from Anastasios Donis and Gonzalo Castro earned Stuttgart their first win of the season.

Bremen played with 10 men for the majority of the game after Milos Veljkovic’s 36th-minute red card. An own goal from goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler offered them a way back into the match but Stuttgart got over the line.

Victory against Wolfsburg would have seen Borussia Monchengladbachjoin Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin on 13 points but Dieter Hecking’s team had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw at the Volkswagen Arena.

Monchengladbach twice led through goals from Alassane Plea and Thorgan Hazard but Renato Steffen and then Wout Weghorst equalised for the hosts, who drew for the fourth time in five Bundesliga matches.

RB Leipzig extended their unbeaten run to five league games with a 2-1 win at Hoffenheim. Yussuf Poulsen’s double put them in control before the hosts pulled a goal back in injury time through an Andrej Kramaric penalty.

Alessandro Schopf’s 11th-minute header saw Schalke get their first league win of the season as they overcame Mainz 1-0 in Gelsenkirchen.

Nuremberg bounced back from their 7-0 hammering by Dortmund in midweek with a 3-0 home victory against Fortuna Dusseldorf. Hanno Behrens opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Mikael Ishak and Federico Palacios added second-half goals.
