A Ghana Athletics Vice President, Charles Osei Assibey, says he knew Ghana’s Men’s 4×100 Relay Team was going to qualify to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris once Team Ghana perfected the baton change.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of Team Ghana winning Heat Two at the World Athletics Relay 4×100 Race in Bahamas.

Ghana won the heat ahead of Nigeria and Dominican Republic with a time of 38.29 which was an improvement on the time clocked (38.43 seconds) at the 2023 African Games that fetched Ghana the silver medal. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Speaking on the win that sealed Ghana’s place in Paris, Vice President Osei Assibey addressed the issue that had hampered Team Ghana’s qualification in previous race attempts.

“In the year under review, we’ve believed in the individual performances of our team so we knew that once we got the baton change right, we knew we’d qualify. For us at Ghana Athletics, it comes as great news because we have been able to qualify to the Olympics and put Ghana’s name up there.”
