Assistant head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team, Ignatius Fosu, believes that his team’s chances of qualifying to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco have been boosted after Sudan bagged a goalless draw with Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sudan survived a barrage of attacks in the second half after largely limiting Ghana in the first half to add to its point tally in Group F. Sudan rank second in the group with four points from three games.

Ghana plays Sudan again on Monday, October 14 in Libya due to security concerns in Sudan and Fosu believes that getting the hard fought draw away from home has boosted Sudan’s qualification chances.

“We have always been confident from the star of the competition because we take solace in the fact that in the (2026) World Cup qualifiers, we are two points clear ahead of Senegal. So for us we have always been confident that we are going to qualify”.

“After Ghana lost at home (to Angola) and drew away (to Niger) we knew that if we won all our home games, we will qualify so this (getting a draw in Accra) is a huge boost for Team Sudan because now it becomes easier.”
