Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has emphasized the need for improvement in his team’s goal-scoring after a 2-1 defeat to Legon Cities in their outstanding week six fixture of the Ghana Premier League.

Legon Cities took control early in the match, with Albert Yeboah scoring in the 24th minute to put his team ahead. Kotoko fought back, and in the 76th minute, Albert Amoah levelled the score by confidently converting a penalty, marking his fifth goal of the season.

However, just as the game seemed destined for a draw, Legon Cities’ Abdul Rahim struck again, securing a vital win and marking their first victory of the 2024/25 season.

In a post-match interview, Coach Ogum expressed frustration over the lack of goals but praised his players for creating numerous chances.

“We just have to talk to them and let them understand that the game is like that.”
“It’s a league and not a knockout”
“In a league, we win, we draw or we lose so it’s just one of those.”
“We have lost, we need to put ourselves together and stay focused, show some fresh energy at training, and get ourselves together for the next game.”
“We still have to work on our goalscoring.”
“One thing I’m happy about is when we play, we create, and that’s an indication that on a very good day you can score.”
“So we will keep working, that’s the work of a coach and the technical staff.”
“We have to keep working to make sure that we can score more goals.”

This loss marks Kotoko’s first of the current campaign, leaving them in second place with 15 points.

They will look to regroup as they prepare to face Hearts of Lions at home in week nine.
