“The NSA itself needs a proper review, we need to review it & strengthen it” – Kofi Adams

Ghana’s Sports Minister-Designate for Sports & Recreation, Kofi Adams, has outlined ambitious plans to revamp the National Sports Authority (NSA), emphasizing the need to appoint the right personnel to lead the institution.

He also hinted at a comprehensive review of the Authority’s operations to enhance efficiency and accountability.

The NSA, which is responsible for developing, organizing, promoting, and managing competitive and recreational sports in Ghana, has come under heavy scrutiny in recent years.

From the infamous case of a missing pick-up truck under former boss Prof. Peter Twumasi to the poor maintenance of playing surfaces at major national stadia—including the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, and Sekondi-Takoradi Stadium—the Authority has faced widespread criticism.

Baba Yara Sports Stadium some months back

One of the most glaring incidents was the deterioration of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, once revered as the “Spiritual Cathedral” of the Black Stars.

Due to multiple infractions detected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the venue was deemed unfit to host international matches.

This left Ghana in a state of uncertainty over where to stage home fixtures during the 2025 AFCON qualification campaign.

Speaking to Citi Sports on Friday, January 31, 2025, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges by ensuring competent leadership at the NSA.

He stressed that fixing the fundamental issues within the Authority would be a priority in his tenure, should he be confirmed as Minister.
