Football is profitable everywhere with the exception of Ghana – Evelyn Nsiah Asare

Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Evelyn Nsiah Asare, has expressed concern over the state of football in Ghana, describing it as an unprofitable venture.

The Ghana Premier League has struggled to secure a headline sponsor, which would provide much-needed financial support for clubs in their daily operations.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier League received a GH₵10 million sponsorship from Malta Guinness two years ago, set to span three years.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Nsiah Asare who also served as a board member of Asante Kotoko and chairperson of the Ashanti Regional Football Association’s Women’s Committee highlighted systemic challenges that have long hindered the growth of Ghanaian football. She cited poor infrastructure and a lack of investment as major factors preventing the sport from generating the revenue seen in other footballing nations.

It is not profitable doing football in Ghana.

Football is profitable everywhere ,with the exception of Ghana, because we gotten the basics wrong.

I don’t know if individuals can go to FIFA and tell them this is what we do and help us, because I don’t get it.

The whole year ,how much do you get ?

You are coming from Takoradi to play a game in Accra for example , you spend more than 12,000 Ghana cedis and get nothing at the end of the year.

Even the sponsorship, let say you are been given 50,000 Ghana cedis . 50,000 cedis can play only 4 matches . Is this lucrative?

But some of us we have entered it and I don’t know whether we have been injected with it and we can’t leave it ,but we don’t get anything from it.

Hasaacas Ladies remain at the summit of the Southern Zone in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League after securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Police Ladies over the weekend.

The league leaders had to come from behind to salvage a point in the clash at the Alajo AstroTurf on Saturday, February 22. Despite falling behind, the Hasmal Ladies showed resilience to level the score and extend their strong run in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Premier League is set to resume on March 6 following the funeral of Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko fan.
