President John Mahama

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, says he has regrets over building a 4,000 seat capacity at the Bukom Boxing Arena believing that he should have built a bigger arena.

Ghana’s President made this confession when a high powered delegation led by former British boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.

The delegation included boxing legend Azumah Nelson, Sports Minister Kofi Adams and CEO of Legacy Rise Sports, Sharaf Mahama.

While addressing the delegation, President Mahama stated that he wants to make Joshua an African ambassador for boxing and said that the Bukom Boxing Arena was originally built to be an academy and his return to the Presidency is an opportunity to sort this out. Still on the Bukom Boxing Arena, President Mahama went on to add that, “My one regret is that I didn’t build it bigger than it is now. I thought the 4,000 was enough to come and see a boxing match but it looks like we need a much bigger arena to contain the new interest that is coming up.”

“My dream to turn the Bukom Boxing Arena into a full academy was stalled after I left office — but we’ll pick it up again. In fact, we need an even bigger arena,” President Mahama says during a courtesy call by boxing star Anthony Joshua at Jubilee House. Watch the full video… pic.twitter.com/LfXTB1FeOH
