President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the Bukom Boxing Arena was originally built to serve as a full blown academy fitted with hostels and education facilities to train boxers.
He disclosed this in his speech while speaking when former British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua led a high powered delegation to visit the President at the Jubilee House.
Joshua who arrived in Ghana on Friday June 13 as the special guest of the Battle of the Beasts Boxing Event that was co-headlined by Legacy Rise Sports and Amir Khan Promotions at the Bukom Boxing Arena, complimented Ghana as an amazing country. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
On his part, President Mahama shared his willingness to have Anthony Joshua-who is of Nigerian descent- as an African Boxing Ambassador and added that, (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“Unfortunately over the years things [in boxing] have gone down and that’s what we tried to revive by setting up the Bukom Boxing Arena, it’s actually an academy because its got hostels, it’s got classrooms and the intention was that we will scout and look for young talents across the country and bring them to live and train there and go to school at the same time.”

“Unfortunately, after I left office that dream was put on hold but we have the opportunity to take it up again.”
