Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has confessed that his relationship with the owner of the club, Evangelos Marinakis, is not the same as it was.

He made this confession in a press conference ahead of Nottingham’s league game on Sunday, August 24 at 13:00 GMT. Forest beat Brentford in its opening game of the season 3-1.

Marinakis infamously confronted Espirito Santo at the end of a 2-2 draw with Leicester City last season that all but ended Forest’s chances of qualifying to the UEFA Champions League and Espirito Santo addressed his relationship with the Greek businessman.

“I always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season we were very close and spoke on a daily basis. This season it is not so well [between us] but I always believe that dialogue is important because my concern is the squad and the season we have ahead of us. Our relationship has changed and we are not as close.”

“It is not good. I think everybody at the club should be together but this not the reality. What I said, I said it with respect. The reality is that the relationship is not what is use to be. It was a respectful relationship based on trust and sharing opinions but now it is not so good” Espirito Santo said.

Ahead of the presser, reports linking Nuno Espirito Santo to the exit door have surfaced and his comments about Nottingham Forest’s owner further complicates his future at the club.
