Minister for Sports & Recreation, Kofi Adams, has moved to clarify the Ministry’s stance on funding supporters for the Black Stars during international assignments.

His comments come in the wake of growing debate about whether government resources are allocated to sponsor fans and media for trips outside Ghana.

According to the Minister, the government’s priority is to ensure the national team is adequately resourced to compete at the highest level, not to finance supporter groups or other delegations.

Sports Minister 🇬🇭Kofi Adams has clarified the Ministry’s position on funding supporters for Black Stars matches abroad.

“There’s no such thing as there’s a huge provision for media or supporters to be piloted to wherever, no such thing for our national teams.#CitiSports pic.twitter.com/DK4V7ZUyhb

He stressed that the Ministry’s budget is already stretched, making it necessary to focus on areas that directly impact performance on the pitch.

“There’s no such thing as a huge provision for media or supporters to be flown to wherever. No such thing exists for our national teams,” Mr. Adams said, dismissing suggestions that large sums are set aside for such purposes.
He further noted that while the presence of Ghanaian fans at matches is always welcome, the Ministry cannot commit funds to such initiatives.

Instead, supporters who wish to follow the Black Stars abroad are encouraged to do so independently, while government resources remain dedicated to technical, logistical, and player welfare needs.

The clarification comes as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they will travel to Ndjamena to face Chad on Matchday 7 before hosting Mali in Ghana on Matchday 8 between September 1 and 9, 2025. These fixtures are expected to be crucial to Ghana’s qualification hopes.
