Morocco have officially secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and in the process have become the first African nation to do so.

The North African nation became the 17th nation to seal its place in next year’s World Cup that will be hosted by the United States of America, Mexico and Canada.

Morocco hammered Niger 5-0 in its latest World Cup qualifier to seal its qualification; the win is the sixth in a row for the North Africans in Group E. Tanzania rank second on the group with 10 points.

Aside holding maximum points from six games, Morocco have a goal difference of +17 after scoring 19 goals and conceding just two goals.

Speaking in a post-game interview after the win over Niger, Morocco head coach Walid Regragui was happy with the result and was already looking forward to the AFCON in December.

“Six matches, six wins even against teams that play with 10 men behind…I’m satisfied. We have qualified for the World Cup now we will focus on the AFCON” Regragui said.

Morocco became the first African nation to play in the World Cup semifinals; Morocco achieved this feat under Regragui at the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.
