Stakeholders from various swimming clubs have secured an injunction to stop the upcoming Ghana Swimming Association elections, originally scheduled to take place at the Accra Digital Centre on Saturday, October 10, 2025.
The plaintiffs — Daniel Okyere Opare, Rita Naa Joe Beecham, Inez Sasha Arthur, Evelyn Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio, Deborah Osei, Gideon Agyemang, and Gina Apenteng — are suing the President of the Ghana Swimming Association, the General Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Election Committee over multiple alleged breaches within the association.
One of the key concerns raised by the plaintiffs is that the association has not conducted a financial audit or presented a final financial report since 2021.
They further allege that no General Congress has been held under the current administration, led by President Delphina Quaye, despite the requirement for an annual congress.
This, they argue, invalidates the upcoming election process.
The plaintiffs also question the eligibility of certain delegates, claiming that the Coaches Association and the Technical Officials Association have not officially registered with the Ghana Swimming Association but have been included on the voter list.
They accuse the Election Committee of failing to perform proper due diligence before approving the list of delegates.
Additionally, the plaintiffs allege that members of the Election Committee lack independence, asserting that some have affiliations with swimming clubs or close ties to the current President and other executive members — a situation they describe as compromising the integrity of the election.
A final concern raised involves the Liaison Officer between the Ghana Swimming Association and the National Sports Authority, Mr Seth Nti, who is reportedly contesting for a position.
The plaintiffs argue that his participation breaches established regulations.
The plaintiffs say they have formally notified the National Sports Authority of these issues and insist that the election should not proceed under the current circumstances.
Per Citi Sports checks with the Ghana Swimming Association, the body has confirmed receipt of the injunction and stated that it is awaiting a formal response from the Election Committee regarding the next steps.
The Association further indicated that the elections, originally scheduled for tomorrow at the Accra Digital Centre, will not proceed as planned until further notice.
