The Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Norgbey, has strongly criticized the current condition of the Borteyman Sports Complex, describing it as an eyesore.
His remarks followed an inspection tour by the committee on January 26, 2026, to assess the state of key sporting facilities in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking to Citi Sports, the Ashaiman Member of Parliament expressed deep disappointment over the poor maintenance of the Borteyman Sports Complex, which was commissioned in February 2024 ahead of the 13th African Games.

“Yesterday we undertook one of our parliamentary obligations by inspecting some of the sporting facilities in the Greater Accra region, specifically the Borteyman and then the Legon Sports Complex and the Accra Sports Stadium. In fact, at Borteyman, it was an eyesore.
He adds that the sports complex was done just for one event, the African games and that was it
“It appeared as if the structure was just put up there specifically for the All Africa Games. And after the Games, it was left at the mercy of the weather and reptiles.

He also lamented on the total amount of money that was spent on the facility
“I think we sank over 140 million U.S. dollars in that project. I don’t see the reason why it should be left at the mercy of the weather.
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports says it will prioritize putting the Borteyman Sports Complex and other sporting facilities into top condition to ensure they are fit for public use.
