Former Black Queens Management Committee member and current Women’s Football Committee Chairperson Rosalind Amoh has criticised the decision to allow Morocco to host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations again, describing it as a “lazy man approach.”
Her comments follow an announcement by Confederation of African Football that the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed and will now be played from July 25 to August 16, 2026, just days before the tournament was initially scheduled to begin in Morocco.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Amoh said relying on Morocco again to host the continental showpiece reflects a lack of broader planning and could place unnecessary strain on the host nation.
“I even thought it was quite a lazy man’s approach for us to get Morocco to host the competition back-to-back. They will also be fatigued. Much as they want to welcome the rest of the continent, they also have their own interests,” she said.
Amoh added that Morocco has hosted several major competitions in recent years and has also been heavily involved in global hosting bids, which could stretch the country’s resources.
“Every time Morocco hosts something, there is always the ultimate aim of winning it. When they accepted to host, they probably thought they would host and win, but it didn’t happen. Even in the past, when it was mainly Nigeria and South Africa hosting, there was always a rotation,” she explained.
She further called on CAF to expand its pool of host nations to prevent similar situations in the future.
“CAF should find a way to support more countries to host so it doesn’t look like one nation is holding everyone to ransom. If other countries are empowered to host, we won’t find ourselves in this situation again,” Amoh said.
Morocco had initially been scheduled to host the tournament before the late postponement announcement earlier this month.
