The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has led continental tributes following the killing of Berekum Chelsea winger Dominic Frimpong in a robbery attack.
The 20-year-old was shot dead when the club’s bus came under attack while returning from a Ghana Premier League match, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves across Ghanaian and African football.

In a letter to the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, Motsepe described the incident as “profoundly sad,” confirming CAF’s awareness of the ambush.
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the armed robbery attack on the bus of Berekum Chelsea… which claimed the life of a 20-year-old winger, Dominic Frimpong,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the continental body, Motsepe extended condolences to the player’s family, teammates, and the wider football community, underscoring the scale of the loss.
“Please pass my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Dominic Frimpong and to the Ghana Football Association.”
He added that CAF stands in solidarity with Ghana at a time of grief, offering prayers for comfort and strength.
“CAF is with you during this sad and painful period.”
The Ghana Football Association remains in close contact with Berekum Chelsea and the Ghana Police Service as investigations continue. There are growing calls for swift justice and stronger security measures to protect teams travelling for domestic competitions.
