Secretary of State of the United States of America, Marco Rubio, says America is ready to welcome Iran’s athletes to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be co-hosted on American soil but was quick to add that others tied to the Asian nation weren’t welcomed.
He said this while speaking at the White House when the lingering issue of Iran’s participation in this year’s World Cup continues as the USA and Iran are still engaged in war highlighted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The serious security issue has led to many to believe that Iran will pull out of competing in the tournament that has Iran set to play against New Zealand, Egypt and Belgium with all the games to be play in the US.
“The problem with Iran would be, not their athletes. It would be some of the other people that they want to bring with them.”

“We may not be able to let them in…but not the athletes themselves. If they decide not to come on their own, it’s ’cause they decided not to come” Marco Rubio said.
