Manchester City have condemned racist abuse directed at Antoine Semenyo following their 3-3 draw with Everton on Monday, May 4.
In a statement released after the match, City described the incident as unacceptable and confirmed that Semenyo was targeted during the game. The team welcomed what they described as swift action by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible.
The club also noted that Marc Guéhi was subjected to racist abuse on social media later the same night, condemning the messages as “vile” and reiterating their opposition to all forms of discrimination.
Antoine Semenyo has faced repeated racist abuse over the past year, starting on August 15, 2025 at Anfield while playing for Bournemouth, where he reported being targeted by a spectator during the season opener against Liverpool, an incident that led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man who later denied the charge in court; the abuse continued online later that month on Instagram, resurfaced again on April 14, 2026 when he shared screenshots of fresh insults saying “it’s started again,” and most recently on May 4, 2026, when Manchester City confirmed he was racially abused during their 3-3 draw at Everton, resulting in the arrest of a 71-year-old man.
Manchester City said it will continue to support both players and stressed that discrimination has no place in football.
