NAC Breda’s relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie to the Eerste Division was officially confirmed despite the club not closing out its game in the penultimate round in the 2025-2026 league season.
16th ranked Volendam’s 1-1 draw with Excelsior pushed Volendam’s point tally to 32 seven more than NAC Breda’s tally who have just two games left to play in the season.
Breda’s scheduled game against Heerenveen was abandoned due to fireworks lit at the game venue but results from other games meant that irrespective of the outcome from the two games left in the season, NAC would remain stuck in 17th place in the 18 team league and drop to compete next season in the lower division.
Former Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew joined the club in January as a free agent and has scored just a goal in 16 league games at the time of writing. Fellow Black Stars players Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi are Ayew’s teammates at Breda.

Reflecting on the development, NAC Breda’s General Manager Remco Oversier expressed his disappointment stating to the club’s media,

“For everyone who holds NAC dear, this is a huge blow. Relegation naturally hits extremely hard.”
