Ghana’s fastest man Abdul-Rasheed Saminu says he isn’t bothered about not winning his race but the University of South Florida sprinter says he is rather focused on qualifying to the next round of the African Senior Athletics Championships. (Scroll down to watch video)

This year’s Athletics Championships is taking place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium from May 12 to May 17 and a handful of members of Ghana’s contingent competed on the opening day of the event.

The likes of Florence Agyemang and Joseph Paul Amoah finished second in their respective heats in the Women’s 400 Metre and Men’s 100 Metre event to qualify to the next round.

Unfortunately, Ghana female sprinter Janet Mensah had a false start and a late reaction time at the start cost her a place in the next round.

Like Amoah, Saminu finished second in his heat to qualify to the next round and didn’t seem bothered after missing out on first place in his heat.

“It’s about making it to the next round so I don’t really care who won, let’s just go the second round and see who is who. I’m just chilling so it’s not a big deal. This is the African Championships, I’ve run at the Olympics before so this is just the beginning.”
