Germany became the third team to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in Group E on Saturday, June 20.
The four-time world champions made it two wins from two matches and moved to six points, securing a place in the knockout stage with one group game remaining.
Côte d’Ivoire took the lead in the 30th minute through Franck Kessié, who scored from a rebound after Germany failed to clear their lines.
Germany dominated possession and created several chances, with two first-half goals ruled out before finally finding an equaliser in the 68th minute. Substitute Deniz Undav volleyed home from a Nadiem Amiri cross to make it 1-1.
Undav completed the comeback deep into stoppage time, scoring in the 94th minute after being set up by Felix Nmecha.
The double continued the striker’s impressive form for Germany, taking his tally to nine goals in his last eight international appearances.
Germany had opened their campaign with a 7-1 victory over Curaçao, while Côte d’Ivoire began with a 1-0 win over Ecuador.
The result makes Germany the third nation to book a place in the Round of 32, joining Mexico and the United States. Côte d’Ivoire remains on three points and will face Curaçao in their final group match, while Germany takes on Ecuador.
