Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has stated the reason behind forward Brandon Thomas-Asante’s limited appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese trainer indicated that the Coventry City player was used only when it was necessary in the course of Ghana’s campaign at the tournament.
Thomas-Asante provided the assist that led to one of only two goals Ghana scored in the competition with the goal giving Ghana a 1-0 win over Panama at the group stage.
Despite the impressive showing off the bench against Panama, Thomas-Asante didn’t feature in Ghana’s game against Colombia at the round of 32 stage and played 20 minutes in Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Croatia.
Asked why one of the few bright spots in Ghana’s wobbly attack wasn’t featured more prominently in a post-game interview with Sporty TV, Carlos Queiroz said,

“He-Thomas-Asante- played when it was necessary to play… (I’m) disappointed with the result because the boys, they work hard, they tried their best but the reality is on the day, especially in the passing and controlling of the game, the Colombia team was better.”
