FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour has been sacked by the world football governing body after criticising FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
His dismissal comes weeks after he criticised Infantino over the latter’s decision to sell a stake in FIFA to investors with the sale estimated at $4 Billion.
Lamour stated, “Our mission … is to serve football, not to serve the personal interests of a person” in the heat of the debate over the proposed sale.
However, the controversial planned sale was withdrawn after heavy criticism from several stakeholders in football.
Europe’s football governing body UEFA even threatened to boycott the World Cup had the deal gone through.
Several football personalities including legend Luis Figo have also criticised Infantino and called on him to resign while confederations from Africa and South America have backed the under-fire administrator. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“FIFA can confirm that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer has ended.”
“FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him the best of luck for the future. No further comment will be made on the matter” a section of the statement read.
