André Ayew donates GH¢10,000 to support wheelchair basketball championship

Black Stars André Dede Ayew has donated GH¢10,000 to support the 6th Inter-Regional Wheelchair Basketball Championship during a visit to the Volta Region.

Ayew was in the region as a special guest at the 2026 Volta Cup, where he interacted with young footballers, athletes and members of the local sporting community.

He also visited the wheelchair basketball championship at the Ho Sports Stadium and contributed GH¢10,000 towards athlete welfare and match-day operations.

The championship has brought together about 150 para-athletes from five regions, providing a competitive platform while promoting greater inclusion in sport.

Ayew interacted with the athletes, commending their determination and encouraging them to remain focused on their ambitions and pursue greater opportunities through sport.

The donation adds to Ayew’s growing community engagements away from professional football. In recent years, he has spent time with young people and played community football in areas including Tema New Town and Aboabo in Kumasi, using the visits to share his experiences and encourage young athletes.

His visit to the Volta Region extended that engagement beyond football, drawing attention to para-athletes who often compete with fewer resources and less visibility.

For Ayew, the intervention is another way of using his platform to support athletes at the grassroots level and promote greater participation and inclusion in Ghanaian sport.
