Ghana will look to get their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign back on track when they host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29.
The Black Stars began their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Abidjan, leaving Carlos Queiroz’s side without a point after the opening round of matches.
The Gambia, meanwhile, beat Somalia 2-1 and sit on three points, level with Côte d’Ivoire at the top of the group. Ghana will therefore be looking for a response at home as they aim to open their account in the qualifiers.
Carlos Queiroz has called for a more positive and attacking approach, with the Portuguese coach stressing the need to dominate possession, recover the ball quickly and use it effectively in attack.
The Black Stars will, however, be without several players. Defender Alexander Djiku is among those ruled out through injury, adding to Ghana’s growing list of absentees.
The Gambia go into this game with confidence after their opening-day victory. The Scorpions have shown they can threaten in attack and will look to build on their win over Somalia.
The priority for the black stars will be turning possession into clear chances and improving their attacking output after struggling to seriously threaten Côte d’Ivoire in their opening game on September 24.
With Côte d’Ivoire also starting with a win, the Black Stars need a positive result at home to avoid falling further behind in Group C.
