Sacramento Kings guard Ben Simmons is set to miss the entire 2026/27 NBA season after suffering a torn Achilles during training.
The former number one overall pick had been hoping to revive his career after missing the 2025/26 season with back problems.
The Kings confirmed the injury in a team statement, adding that the 30-year-old will undergo surgery in the coming days.
“I’ve faced challenges before that tested me mentally, physically and emotionally, and I’ve found a way through every single one of them. This injury is another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story.”

“It’s never easy being away from the game I love, especially after everything it took to get back here but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that adversity doesn’t define you” Simmons said via a social media post.

In two preseason games, the Aussie averaged 10.5 points in 17.5 minutes.
