Let’s put Ghana Football first- Mark Noonan

Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak Mark Noonan, has urged all stakeholders in Ghana football to sit up and begin tackling the deep rooted problems n the game in order to reach a telling solution.

In a compelling write-up, the American highlighted the many problems affecting football in the country and suggested some solutions to them.

All the local football leagues in the country are on an indefinite break following revelations from the Anas Exposé which was premiered in June.

The documentary has since led to the resignation of former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi, with Government now taking steps to dissolve the Football Association.

Noonan went on to compare the state of the local game to that of some foreign leagues, and attributed the mass exodus of local players to foreign leagues to the unattractive state of the local league.

“The question we need to seriously ask ourselves is when are we going to put Ghana Football first?”, he said.

“Are we simply content with exporting one of the nation’s most valuable economic and social assets for the benefit of others?

“This is a choice people, don’t ever lose sight of the fact that we have the power to choose. Just imagine for a moment how compelling Ghana club football will be if a fraction of the 400+ Ghanaian pros spread across the globe stayed home to showcase their immense talents here. Just imagine.

“There are no easy or quick fixes to the problems that ail. The answers are many and they are hard, but it is said that “charity begins at home.

“Well its about time we prioritize the health and welfare of the game here and lift ourselves up instead of knocking each other down? Once and for all, let’s choose Ghana Football first and start protecting, nourishing, growing and truly celebrating what is ours,” he added.

Many local clubs have voiced out their displeasure about the current state of football in the country, with most of them forced to be paying their players even while the league is on break.
