Black Queens in Kenya for 2020 Olympic Games qualifier

Ghana’s senior female team, the Black Queens, are in Nairobi for the return leg of their 2020 Olympic Games football qualifiers against their hostesses on Kenya.

The two teams drew goalless on Friday, October 4 in Accra in the first leg of the 3rd round of the qualifying series and they will have to settle the tie in Nairobi on Tuesday.

With the first leg being a draw, Ghana will make it to the 4th round with either a victory or a score draw. The draw will help Ghana make it on the basis of the away goals.

Before leaving Ghana, Black Queens head coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, said that she had confidence in the team and its ability to record a good result.

”If they have been able to pick a draw over here, we can also go there and win the game. I am confident we will beat them and qualify to the next round.”

Should make it through, they will come up against the winner of the tie involving Zambia and Botswana in the next round of the qualifiers.

What about Kenya?

The Kenyans seem confident of getting the right result against Ghana and progressing in the series.

The team’s head coach, David Ouma, told the Kenyan Football Federation that the team was well prepared for the second leg.

“I am happy with how my team played in Ghana as we had good defense organization that hindered Ghana chances to score against us.

I have high expectations for a positive result in the game tomorrow since we are playing at home, in familiar grounds. We have learned Ghana’s strengths and weaknesses as a team and will use them to our advantage.”

Ghana is hoping to grab the sole full ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Games but should they lose the final game of the African qualifiers, they will face the second-placed team in the South American zone.
