GFA offices remain closed after suspension of partial lockdown.

Ghana’s football governing body, Ghana Football Association (GFA) says its offices are still closed despite the suspension of the partial lockdown imposed on parts of the country by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus and the measures listed by President Akufo-Addo, the sports secretariat closed its national office and other regional offices in a bid to adhere to the ban on public gathering.

The GFA in a communiqué maintained its offices and stakeholders were “to continue with the use of the online systems of the GFA (email, Registration System – FIFA Connect etc) to communicate with the Secretariat” until further notice.

The football governing body, however, did not make any statement on when the various leagues would resume amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

Background on the suspension of Premier League in Ghana

The GFA halted all football activities on 16th March 2020 following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Ghana.

About COVID-19 and current statistics in Ghana:

Ghana has so far recorded 1,042 COVID-19 cases with 9 deaths and 99 recoveries.

Read the GFA statement here:

The public is hereby informed that the offices of the Ghana Football Association remain closed despite government’s decision to lift the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and Kasoa environs.

This is because the government’s directive on the public gathering of 25 or more persons is still in force.

Members of the GFA, including clubs, Regional Football Associations and all stakeholders are being reminded to continue with the use of the online systems of the GFA (email, Registration System – FIFA Connect etc) to communicate with the Secretariat.

Football clubs are advised to strictly comply with the ban on gathering and sporting activities and are therefore reminded that group training is still not allowed until the ban on social gathering is lifted by the state.
