NSA completes vetting of athletes to benefit from YEA COVID Relief Fund

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has approved the list of athletes to benefit from the Youth in Elite Sports allowance for the next six months.

The list of sports personalities cuts across the various sporting disciplines and the final approval has been given for the dissemination of the allowance.

The idea behind the initiative by the NSA/YEA is to alleviate the COVID effect on lesser financed sports by paying them a monthly stipend of GHC500 starting from last month, July.

The Package is meant for one thousand (1,000) athletes, but a total of one thousand five hundred and fifty-one (1,551) athletes applied for the allowance and went through the vetting process conducted by the sports authority.

Eight hundred and eighty-six (886) athletes have thus far been cleared as beneficiaries for the package.

An additional list of the remaining one hundred and fourteen (114) slots will be submitted later after prospective athletes who have some pending documentation issues have been cleared by the vetting committee of the NSA.

A total of 496 Footballers from the 16 elite Women league clubs applied for the Government-sponsored allowance, but after vetting by the National Sports Authority, 89% [443] qualified to receive the allowance for the next six months.

Abled and disabled sports categories also constituted 348 and 95 athletes respectively to complete the cleared athletes.
