Experienced golfer Frank Adu won the 2023 SMEC International’s Invitational Golf Tournament at Achimota Golf Club (AGC) on Saturday.

Adu, who is also the President of AGC, scored 40 points in the Men’s event, securing the top prize and a golf bag from sponsors.

“AGC is committed to having more females play golf. I would urge the management of SMEC to get more of their female staff to play golf,”  he praised SMEC for their support.

Roland Osei Nyarko came second with 39 points and received a trophy and a three-wheel trolley. Elias George Hage also had 39 points and took third place, receiving a trophy and a two-wheel trolley.

In the Ladies’ event, Pam Mugendi won with 37 points, getting a trophy and a golf bag.

Mary Prempeh was second with 36 points, earning a trophy and a three-wheel trolley.

Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah finished third with 34 points, receiving a trophy and a two-wheel trolley.

Tutu Agyare and Prempeh won the Longest Drive awards, getting trophies, golf balls (men’s winner), and gloves (women’s winner).

Jojo Ampadu and Charity Vogel won the Closest to the Pin awards, each getting a trophy and a bag.

SMEC staff had their own event, and Daniel Fefe and Naa Ansah Bruce-Tageo were the best putters, earning trophies. Cecil Reinhold had the Longest Drive for men, and Emily Tetteh won in the women’s category, both receiving trophies.

Mr. Jose Fernandes, the Regional Manager for SMEC West Africa, expressed pleasure in holding the second edition of the tournament, saying it helps connect with clients and grow their business.

“It is a gathering of our staff, potential clients, and friends to network in a very relaxing sporting atmosphere. This is basically to recognize SMEC and the good work we are doing in Ghana as far as developing infrastructure is concerned.”

“We are committed to another event next year and bringing more people on board. We have over 90 percent of Ghanaians as our workforce, and we will continue to engage more people. It was a successful event, and we are happy to host the golf event,” he noted.

SMEC provides consultancy services on major infrastructure projects for sectors, including urban and social development, transport, hydropower, energy, water, and environment.

The Operations Manager for SMEC Ghana, Emmanuel Mantey, indicated:

“we believe that golf is an avenue for people to come together and create opportunities, and we hope for a bigger event next year.”
