President of the Ghana Boxing Federation Bernard Quartey believes more investment is needed to develop female boxing in the country.
Ghana’s Olympic boxing team, the Black Bombers, are in Dakar in Senegal for the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers, slated from September 9 to September 15 with the Black Hitters featuring more female boxers in comparison to the last qualifier.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Bernard Quartey is adamant that an injection of capital will turn things around for female boxing
“It is not that we don’t have the females we have them but we are saying that if we have people to come and invest believe you me, Ghana will have more female boxers that will actually do what the likes of Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and the rest did.”
“This particular time, a lot of women have showed interest and they are proud to represent Ghana and have made me aware that they will be able to bring medals for Ghana and qualify for the Olympic Games”
The Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to take place from the 9th of September to the 15th of September
