The draw for this season’s CAF Champions League group stage has been completed in Johannesburg, South Africa with Ghana representative, Medeama Sporting Club getting placed in a tough group.
The Tarkwa based side is in Group D with record holders Al-Ahly of Egypt, Young Africans of Tanzania and CR Belouizdad of Algeria.
This is Medeama’s maiden run in Africa’s premier club competition after featuring in the CAF Confederation Cup previously.
Medeama beat out competition from Nigeria’s Remo Stars and Guinea’s Horoya AC in the preliminary rounds to make it to the group stage.
2016 CAF Champions League winner Mamelodi Sundowns and 2015 champion TP Mazembe have been drawn in Group A with Egypt’s Pyramid FC and FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania.
The pick of the draw is Group C that has Tunisia rivals Esperance and Etoile du Sahel paired with Angola’s Atletico Petroleos and Al-Hilal of Sudan.
