Black Queens Management Committee Member, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has tagged Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team’s qualification to the next edition of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as a “big deal”.
She made this description in an interview on the arrival of the Black Queens in Ghana after sealing qualification to the 2024 AWCON in Morocco.
Ghana beat Namibia 3-2 on aggregate to qualify to the premier competition after missing out on the 2022 edition that was also held in Morocco.
Despite losing 1-0 to Namibia in the second leg, Ghana was able to sail through to Morocco and the feat wasn’t lost on Oware-Mensah.
“It’s not just for women’s football but football in general and anytime there is a win, it makes the country happy. Our qualification was based on this time this time so I believe after five years, being able to qualify again for AWCON is a big deal.”
Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle praised the efforts of her side on the team’s arrival in Ghana.
