Chief Director at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Wilhelmina Asamoah, has revealed that the government took proactive steps to ensure that the Black Queens were fully resourced ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Queens arrived at the Kotoka International Airport at 4:00 AM from Morocco, after placing fourth at the tournament. Ghana’s journey included a group stage loss to South Africa, a draw with Mali, and a vital win over Tanzania, which secured a place in the quarter-finals.
They went on to defeat Algeria to reach the semi-finals but fell to host nation Morocco before losing the third-place playoff to Banyana Banyana.
Speaking after the team’s return to Ghana, she stated, “e put a team together to ensure that their resources were ready, and the government did what they had to do to ensure that their monies were released on time.
Her comments highlight the state’s commitment to the women’s national team, which showed remarkable progress throughout the competition.

Despite narrowly missing out on a medal, the team’s performance marked a significant improvement and reflected the growing investment in women’s football, as noted by both government and football authorities.
