The renovated University of Ghana Stadium will host the 13th African Games next month and ahead of the start of the multi-sport competition, the list of disciplines to be held at the edifice has been released.
The UG Stadium is one of two main host sites for the African Games to be held from March 8 to March 23 with the newly built Borteman Sports Complex being the other main site.
In his State of the Nation Address, President Nana Akufo-Addo talked about how proud he was the UG Stadium had been completed under his stewardship. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Athletics, 3×3 Basketball, Men’s Football, Rugby, Armwrestling, Weightlifting, Pickleball and Speedball have been listed as the disciplines the UG Stadium will host.
Ghana’s National Under 20 Men’s Football Team, the Black Satellites, is in Group A with The Gambia, Benin, and Republic of Congo while Nigeria, South Sudan, Senegal, Uganda and Tunisia have been drawn in Group B.
Eight sports disciplines including athletics, table tennis, cycling and swimming will serves as qualifiers to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
