Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has charged the Local Organizing Committee of the 13th African Games to ensure the Games don’t get affected by the intermittent blackouts that have gripped the nation recently.
He addressed this on the floor of Ghana’s Parliament as Ghana prepares to host the multi-sport competition from March 8 to March 23.
The renovated University of Ghana Stadium and newly built Borteyman Sports Complex will host a bulk of the competition’s events.
In a related development, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said the Borteyman Sports Complex will be converted into a University for Sports Development at a press briefing. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Ghana has been experiencing electricity challenges since the start of the year and former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye is urging the relevant authorities to ensure that power is stable throughout the competition.
“In these days of Adum Adum Dum (erratic power supply) we should be very very sure that our Games venues, centres will have constant, regular and reliable supply of electricity so that our image doesn’t suffer in the period of the Games.”
