President of Ghana Badminton, Evans Yeboah, has detailed the reason behind the controversy surrounding the transportation of badminton players to the Borteyman Sports Complex to compete in the 13th African Games being held in Ghana.
His address comes in response to players being transported in the bucket of a pickup truck to the venue to compete with the situation playing a role in Ghana’s failure to capture a medal in the discipline.
The Ghana Badminton President said this during a presser organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide updates on the competition and address challenges spotted in the early days of the event.
“The athletes in question had a match for 8 am as per rules and per usual protocol they are always assisted with a bus and a motorcade so on that morning on that day, because of time constraint, the bus that were using actually had broken down on the express way.”
“So the coach in his own wisdom decided to get to the hall early at 8 am so it was basically the coach’s decision to be able to bus them as an interim measure to the hall that early morning.”
The African Games are to conclude on March 23.
