Cleveland Browns linebacker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, says incorporating a new sport like American Football into Ghana’s sports market, will come with a lot of benefits.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports on the sidelines of the Eid-Ul Fitr celebration to mark the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Owusu-Koramoah advocated for Ghana to open its sports market to incorporate American Football and its flagship league, the National Football League (NFL) into its space.
“I believe there is a big market for American football. You’re starting to see it in Japan, Brazil, China, Mexico everybody is starting to accept it’s a new sport and its starting to bring a lot of revenue whether its economics, education, opportunities to travel there is a lot of benefits to incorporate a new sport.”
“We are in a stadium right now and a lot of that (benefits) can be channeled around American football so I can’t wait to see it and I plan to be a big part of it Insah Allah.”
Owusu-Koramoah is a 2020 NFL Draft second round draft pick who got his first Pro Bowl nod in 2023 and is heading into the final year of his four year rookie contract worth $6.5 million.
The 24 year old held an American football camp in Ghana in 2022 and has gained popularity in the NFL for his distinct Ghanaian themed game day outfits.
