Head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team, James Kwasi Appiah, has praised his team’s efforts after securing its latest win but acknowledged the long road ahead for his team to qualify to the 2025 AFCON.

Appiah witnessed the Falcons of Jediane score a 1-0 win over Niger in South Sudan to take an early lead in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Due to a war in Sudan, the game had to be played at a neutral location.

Bakr Issa’s goal in the 51st minute settled the tie and according to CECAFA, the former Black Stars head coach thanked his players for bagging a win in its first qualification game ahead of its clash against Angola on Monday, September 9 at 21:00 GMT.

Sudan and Niger are in Group F with Ghana and Angola and the latter countries face off at 16:00 GMT on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

“I thank the players for working hard to get the three points as we started the qualifiers. There is still a lot of work to be done because we have many more matches to be played in the group.”

Under Appiah, Sudan also lead Group B standings in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
