Albert K. Frimpong, a trailblazer in African sports, has been recognized with the Grand Medal Award for contribution to sports in Ghana. Frimpong has been recognized for his works for bringing non traditional sports mainstream at the ongoing National Honors Awards.

He was given this award for his outstanding contributions to the development of baseball and softball in Ghana and across the continent

As the President of WBSC Africa (World Baseball Softball Confederation) and the past president Ghana baseball softball Federation, Frimpong has been instrumental in advancing baseball and softball in Ghana and Africa. His passion for the sport began in Ghana, where he founded the Ghana Baseball Association currently the 3rd team in Africa and 42nd ranked baseball team in the IBAF World Rankings. Over the years, his efforts have laid a solid foundation for the sport’s growth at both national and continental levels.

Frimpong’s influence extends beyond baseball. He co-founded Ghana Beach Soccer, expanding the nation’s sporting horizons. He also initiated Skate Soccer, a program designed to empower individuals with disabilities by involving them in competitive sports, breaking barriers, and reducing stigma.

Recently elected as the President of the African Baseball and Softball Federation, Frimpong is now leading the charge to elevate the sports in the country and across the continent, His focus is on grassroots development and preparing African teams for global platforms, especially with baseball’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

In addition to his leadership in baseball and softball, Frimpong serves as a board member of the Ghana Olympic Committee and CEO of Sports Solutions Group, where he continues to influence sports innovation and development in Africa.

The honor highlights Frimpong’s enduring commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes and fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence in sports across Africa.

One of four orders which are given at the ceremony was instituted in 1960 as a replacement to the British Honors Systems that were conferred to Gold coast.  The first honors and awards awarded by  Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.  It is given to Ghanaians who have rendered distinguished services to Ghana in various fields.
