Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has highlighted the strategic importance of GFA President Kurt Okraku’s bid for a position on the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to Asante Twum, Okraku’s candidacy provides an excellent opportunity to advance West Africa’s agenda for the development of football across the region.

“Once you get to that position, it puts you in a very good stead to be part of the decision-making process and we know that in Africa, we have a number of challenges confronting our football. The North Africans look very comfortable. Those of us in West Africa and East Africa and Central Africa have issues.

So we need a voice that will speak on behalf of us. We need a voice that will push our agenda, and we need voices that will be heard as well.

He believes that Kurt Okraku’s bid will give our African football a voice same as the continent’s contemporaries.

“I think that if he wins the election, it will give our zone a voice. It will give us a very good representation, and it will also help us to build our game, and then also be highly beneficial to us. If he’s able to win, it will take him a notch higher and that will benefit not only Ghana football but West African football and the African continent at large.”

Okraku has officially filed his nomination to contest the upcoming CAF Executive Committee elections, which are scheduled for March 2025. Running unopposed, he will represent the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.
