Matilda Dimedo, the Women’s Football Lead (Communications) for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has confirmed that newly appointed Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren will serve a two-year term.
This appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for Ghana’s senior women’s national team.
The GFA announced the Swedish coach’s appointment just on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, signalling its commitment to building a competitive Black Queens side capable of excelling on the international stage.

She was speaking on FMIG on Wednesday, January 15, 2024, with host Bennard Abeiku Okyere.
“This two-year contract provides a solid foundation for building a competitive team capable of achieving success on the international stage,” Dimedo stated.
Kim Lars Björkegren, a UEFA License A coach with 18 years of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in women’s football to his new role as head coach of the Black Queens.
During his two-year tenure, Björkegren will focus on revitalizing the team and preparing them for key international competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
His appointment follows the departure of Nora Hauptle, who joined the Zambian Queens earlier in December 2024.
