Women’s Football Communication Lead Matilda Dimedo has expressed optimism about the Black Queens’ progress under new coach Kim Lars Björkegren as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, set for July.
Despite a recent loss to Morocco in an international friendly and the cancellation of a planned match against Raja Casablanca Athletic Women, the team is gearing up for a friendly against Senegal as part of their tournament preparations later in March or April.
The Morocco friendly marked the first of several upcoming games for the Swedish coach, with tougher challenges awaiting at the WAFCON.
Speaking on Wednesday’s Football Made in Ghana with host Bennard Abeiku Okyere, Dimedo highlighted several positives under Björkegren’s leadership, confidently predicting further improvements as the team builds toward the continental showdown.
“This is the first time Coach Kim is experiencing the girls, I see so many positives coming from him, I believe that this WAFCON will be different from the previous ones” – Matilda Dimedo
