Following a joint meeting between Ghana Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak with the Ghana Football Association, the giants have announced that pivotal steps towards transitioning the top flight division to an autonomous league, are being taken.
This came via an announcement made by Kotoko ahead of a crunch meeting with GFA President Kurt Okraku at 13:00 GMT on Thursday, February, 20 at the club’s secretariat.
The two former CAF Champions League winners demanded a fleet of changes to the Ghana Premier League in the wake of the death of Kotoko fan Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong at a league game involving Kotoko and Nsoatreman.
The club called for enhanced security protocols at all league games and an autonomous Ghana League to aid in developing the league and have delivered an update on these via the statement.

In the release, Kotoko and Hearts stated that, “The expanded security presence is a game-changer for protecting players, officials, and fans and lauded the robust measures, particularly the significant increase in security personnel” but insisted that they will ensure compliance to this.

“The meeting also marked a pivotal step forward in the long-anticipated transition to an Autonomous Premier League” the statement added.
Kotoko is set to hold a presser at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday, February 24.
