For the second game in a row in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club’s Benjamin Asare has been named as the starting goalkeeper.
The 32 year old got a shock debut in Ghana’s 5-0 win over Chad on March 21 at the Accra Stadium and very little to do in the big win for the Black Stars.
In Ghana’s game against Madagascar on March 24 in Morocco, Asare got the starting nod over Lawrence Ati Zigi and Joseph Wollacott once again by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
Since his break out season in the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League campaign with Accra Great Olympics where he registered 16 cleans sheets, Asare has had a fast rise to the top.
He was the starting goalkeeper for Ghana’s Black Galaxies 2025 CHAN qualification campaign that ended in the final playoff stage after a 3-0 loss to Nigeria in the second leg.

Midfielder Francis Abu and defender Jerome Opoku are the new additions to the starting lineup that played against Chad with Ernest Nuamah and Inaki Williams replaced.
