Ghana’s chances of establishing a significant lead atop the standings in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers have been given a major boost.
In the lead up to the Black Stars crucial game against second ranked Madagascar on Monday, March 24 in Morocco at 19:00 GMT, fellow contenders for the group’s sole automatic qualification spot played out a goalless draw.
The matchup between Central African Republic (C.A.R.) and Mali ended in a barren draw in Casablanca, Morocco. Mali beat Comoros 3-0 prior to the game while C.A.R. lost 4-1 to Madagascar.
The result means that Mali stay put in third place in Group I with nine points from six games; the Eagles have two wins, three draws and a loss to Ghana.
C.A.R. stay in fifth place with five points from six games on the back of picking up just a win and two draws in those six outings.

With Ghana having 12 points, a win over Madagascar moves the Black Stars to 15 points and get to establish a possible five point lead over second ranked Madagascar.
Wins over Chad and Mali later this year could seal Ghana’s place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with two games to spare. Scroll down to view Group I standings after Mali’s goalless draw with C.A.R.
